How likely is it when we arrive at the Airport to rent an affordable rental car as quick as we can or is it cheaper to reserve a vehicle in advance?

You can, but to be sure of lower prices you should book online in advance. On arrival it will be a lot more expensive to hire a car.
You won't pay £20 pounds for 5 days at the rental desk for the most cheapest car you see now on this website.
